Both California and the USEPA have indicated their intent to regulate hexavalent chromium (Cr-VI) in drinking water beyond the USEPA’s current regulation for total chromium of 100 parts per billion. The Water Research Foundation recognizes that many utilities are looking to prepare for future hexavalent chromium regulations and need information about occurrence, treatment, analytical methods and costs. Additionally, many agencies are interested in guidance for how to best communicate about hexavalent chromium to consumers.
On August 18th, 2011, the Water Research Foundation hosted a workshop at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California in Los Angeles in order to provide utility managers an overview from state and federal regulators about the regulatory status process for setting the hex chrome MCL. Presentations are available now for download in the Information Exchange Forum Library located in the right column.
